Tickets limited for 2016 Rome-Floyd Sports Hall of Fame

Tickets are selling fast for the 2016 Rome-Floyd Sports Hall of Fame Banquet, and anyone who had planned on attending but who has not yet purchased a ticket is encouraged to do so, sooner rather than later.InvitationCover2016

The banquet, silent auction and induction ceremony will be held at the Berry College Krannert Center Ballroom on February 29th, with the auction beginning at 6 p.m. and a seated dinner beginning at 6:45 p.m., followed by the ceremony.

“Our seats are filling up fast,” said Betsy Hampson, event organizer and Recreation Services Manager at the Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation. “This year, we’ve had an overwhelming response, and we’re looking forward to this being one of our best Hall of Fame celebrations yet.”

The 2016 Hall of Fame inductees are David Beasley, Al Thomas and Charles Winslette. Each of the inductees have carved a corner in the athletic history of Rome and Floyd County, and have touched the lives of countless athletes and individuals with whom they’ve worked throughout the years.

Additionally, 14 area students will be honored as nominees for the John Pinson Jr. Student Athlete Scholarship Award, with one female and one male being chosen as scholarship winners.

The cost of the Sports Hall of Fame program is solely supported through ticket sales and sponsorships. The event is hosted by the Sports Hall of Fame Committee and Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation.

The Sports Hall of Fame was started in 1971 in order to recognize amateur and professional athletes and those who contribute to the growth and development of sports.  Nominations are submitted in four categories: amateur athlete, professional athlete, meritorious service and lifetime achievement. Nominations for the Sports Hall of Fame are submitted by the general public and are received year-round.
