With St. Patrick’s Day festivities around the corner, locals are encouraged to sign up for the Harbin Clinic Leprechaun-a-thon before Thursday, when pre-registration ends, and event officials have some tips to make the busy weekend run more smoothly.
“With so many events going on – the race, the Ginger Pride Walk, the Gem and Mineral Show at the Forum and the Teach Me Tennis Tournament at the Downtown Tennis Center, we want to urge Leprechaun-a-thon participants to park at Heritage Park, Riverview Park or the Harbin Clinic Cancer Center before the race,” said Lauren Jones, Marketing Coordinator at Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation.
Because the race start time begins at 11:30 a.m., Race Day Registration will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Harbin Clinic Cancer Center. Pre-registered runners and walkers are encouraged to stop by the Harbin Clinic Vitality Center on Redmond Road Friday between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to pick up their race packets which includes their bib numbers, t-shirt and Downtown Discount bracelet.
“The more pre-registered people pick up their race packets on Friday, the smoother Saturday’s Race Registration will go, since we’ll only have an hour,” said Betsy Hampson, RFPRD Recreation Manager. “We will start the race promptly at 11:30 a.m. and the Health Walk will start at 11:40 a.m.”
Signs along the race route will guide walkers and runners through the Heritage Trail system of Downtown Rome from the starting point at the Harbin Clinic Cancer Center to the finish at Barron Stadium.
After the race, costume contest prizes will be given out for the Littlest Leprechaun, the Luckiest Leprechaun and the Most Festive Attire, followed by race awards.
Registered Leprechaun-a-thon participants will receive green arm bands in their packets that guarantee discounts from downtown businesses. This year’s Downtown Discount businesses are the Brewhouse Music & Grill, Cycle Therapy, Doug’s Deli Downtown, El Zarape, Honeymoon Bakery, Jefferson’s, J.R. Crickets, Kaleido-Sno, Schroeder’s New Deli and Stella Blu Cosmetic Boutique.
