It’s a lucky day for local, creative students who have been looking to get their foot in the door as a professional artist.
On Monday, Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation officials launched a county-wide, logo art contest for area middle and high school students, and the contest winner will see their logo design as the new face of the department.
“We’ve been in a transitional period, going from an Authority to a County Department, and getting a new logo is one of the changes that needs to happen,” said Kevin Cowling, RFPRD Director. “By opening up the drawing board to the students, I know we’ll get their fresh, creative input on what the logo should embody, and at the same time, we get to support our schools’ art programs and encourage creativity.”
A committee of judges will survey the artwork, which will be professionally digitized and rendered by a graphic artist. The logo will be used on all Parks and Recreation promotionals, such as the website, event t-shirts, signs, banners, posters and more.
“This is an exciting chance for middle and high schoolers to not only stretch their creative, artistic muscles, but to have their creation professionally used by a county department,” said Lauren Jones, RFPRD Marketing Coordinator. “It’s a cool opportunity, and for students looking to go into art, or communication, it gives them a jump on building their portfolios.”
The first, second and third place winners in the contest will all receive an art kit and a pizza party for their art class. Additionally, the third place winner will receive $50, the second place winner will receive $75 and the first place winner will receive $100, their framed artwork and a t-shirt with the new logo on it.
Public, private and homeschooled students may participate. The contest rules are that only 6th – 12th graders are allowed to enter the contest. Artwork must be done on 8.5×11 paper and in marker or colored pencil. Only five colors at the most may be used (black and white count as colors). No copyright images are allowed. Only Floyd County residents are eligible.
Submissions are due by May 6 and may be mailed to Administrative Headquarters at 1 Shorter Avenue, Rome, Ga. 30165, with the filled-out submission form. Or, emailed scanned copies of the artwork and submission form may be sent to email@example.com. Download the LogoContestEntryForm.
