28th annual Senior Inforum encourages seniors to get active, spotlights ‘Amazing Greys’

Seniors throughout Northwest Georgia will gain pertinent information and have fun getting active at the 28th Annual Senior Inforum on May 4 at the Forum in Downtown Rome.

The 2015 Senior Inforum brought in more than 500 seniors from the Northwest Georgia Region.

Tickets are $4 for the Inforum and can be purchased at the Charles C. Parker Center, 1325 Kingston Road. Tickets must be purchased in advance and sell out fast.

The Inforum is presented by Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation and the Senior Promotions Council. Wanda Whitten, Chairman of the Senior Inform encourages seniors to come out and learn how they can get active in their own ways.

“We’re happy to again offer this wonderful event to our seniors and to be able to help educate them about services and programs for them in their area,” Whitten said.

“We hope anyone who is a senior will join us as well as anyone who is interested in learning more about services offered to active adults,” added Bob Rudert, Chair of the Senior Promotions Council.

This year’s theme encourages seniors to stay active in sports. The event will have pickleball and cornhole demonstrations and seniors are encouraged to wear their favorite sports shirts.

2016sriNFORUMflYERThis year’s Senior Inforum will introduce the Amazing Greys program which honors area seniors, said Tammy Bryant, special populations coordinator at Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation.

“We’ll spotlight some amazing seniors and for all of the centers and organizations that attend, we’ll recognize one senior from their center,” Bryant said. “We will also recognize the Most Amazing Grey of 2016.”

Bryant said anyone can nominate a senior, and Amazing Grey nominees must be 80 and older. The deadline for submissions is April 27, and submission can be sent to bryantt@floydcountyga.org.

The Inforum will feature more than 20 exhibits with information on programs and services geared toward senior citizens, a Chik-Fil-A lunch, live entertainment, and door prizes.

Exhibit space is still available and costs $25 for non-profit groups. Spaces for for-profit groups are $150. Interested vendors can contact Sheree Williams at 706.234.1655 or email to sheree.williams@brookdale.com.
