RFPRD invites public to Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for new playgrounds

Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation invites local officials and the public to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, October 28th at 10:45 a.m. at Garden Lakes Park to celebrate the installation of new playground equipment at three parks.

“We are pleased to have this new playground equipment and we know many, many kids will enjoy it over the years,” said Kevin Cowling, director of Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation.

The ceremony will be at 2903 Garden Lakes Blvd. At Garden Lakes Park, the new equipment is comprised of a jungle gym with monkey bars and a swing set. The event will also celebrate new equipment at Lock and Dam Park as well as the park in Cave Spring, all of which is funded by 2013 special purpose, local option sales tax.

Lock and Dam’s new playground features a pirate ship with observation decks and a climbable giant fish. Cave Spring’s new equipment includes a wormhole tunnel kids can climb though.

The public is also invited to a park dedication ceremony on November 12th where Cave Spring Park will be renamed E.S. Brown Park.

“We want to encourage the community to come take a look and to help us keep our playground equipment safe so generations of kids can experience the joys of playing outside,” Cowling added.
