Free Trolley Rides with Santa and Mrs. Claus are also a feature of Saturday’s Downtown Holiday Open House.
More than 10,000 candy canes and other sweets will scatter the lawn of the Town Green on Saturday as kids get ready to grab as many as they can for the fourth annual Downtown Candy Cane Hunt that kicks off at 1 p.m.
The Candy Cane Hunt, hosted by Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation, is happening alongside the Downtown Holiday Open House which begins Friday afternoon and is hosted by the Downtown Development Authority. On Saturday, free Trolley Rides with Santa will begin at 11 a.m. and go until 3 p.m., with trolley pickups starting at the Town Green.
For the Holiday Open House, businesses up and down Broad Street will offer holiday discounts and treats, encouraging people to shop local for the holidays and helping them to get in the holiday spirit.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will take a quick break from Trolley Rides at 1 p.m. to kick off the Candy Cane Hunt. Traditionally, Santa helps start the countdown before the kids flood the Town Green grabbing fistfuls of candy canes.
This year, Scoop and Cookie of Sweetfrog and the Chik-fil-A Cow along with other mascots are coming to the Candy Cane Hunt, and a photo booth will be set up so kids can take photos with the mascots before and after the Hunt.
Sponsors for the Candy Cane Hunt include Publix, Sweetfrog, Heritage First Bank, Jandy’s and the City Creamery. For more information about the Candy Cane Hunt, or to view the Trolley Ride Guidelines, visit rfpra.com/candy-cane-hunt.
