Four Floyd County seniors raked in awards at the 2016 Georgia Golden Olympics, and are now training to compete in the National Senior Games next June in Birmingham, Alabama.
Carol Waddell, Gladys Mixon, Luke Studdard and Gordon Haney all traveled to Warner Robbins to participate in the Games that were held from September 21 – 24 and collectively won 21 medals.
Carol Waddell, 65, won gold medals in the areas of Hammer Throw, Shot Put, Javelin, Badminton, Football Throw for Accuracy, Clock Golf Putting, Softball Throw for Distance, and Horseshoe Throw for Accuracy. She also brought home a silver medal for Discus and a bronze medal for Shuffleboard.
Gladys Mixon, 64, won gold medals for Horseshoes, Shuffleboard, 1500 Meter Walk, 5K Walk and Clock Golf Putting, and a silver medal in Badminton.
Luke Studdard, 76, won a bronze medal in Double Shuffleboard and silver medals in Shuffleboard and Horseshoes.
Gordon Haney, 91, won gold medals in Horseshoes and Billiards, as well as a bronze medal in Double Shuffleboard and a silver medal in Shuffleboard.
The same group also competed in last year’s games and collectively brought home 18 medals.
