As summertime nears, Rome is gearing up for a two-day festival of concerts and cooking competitions.
Roman Roast on the River and Rome River Jam are teaming up this year on May 13th and 14th at Ridge Ferry Park, officials confirmed, bringing two beloved events together for a weekend of bands and the best barbecue around.
“Roman Roast on the River celebrates seven years of bringing a wonderful barbecue competition to Rome that has put us on the map throughout the country,” said Betsy Hampson, Coordinator of Roman Roast on the River. “This seemed like the perfect opportunity to team up with River Jam to make this year’s event even more fun than before.”
“These are two great events for the Rome and Floyd County Community,” said Jay Shell of Rome River Jam. “It made sense to join them together, two events that make one big event. We’re looking forward to it.”
“We’ve supported Roman Roast on the River for years, and I’m excited about sponsoring this event,” said David Parker of FiberNet, who is sponsoring the event. These are two events that are great for Rome.”
Tickets for the event are available at RomeRiverJam.com. A weekend pass for both May 13th and May 14th is $30. That price will increase to $35 on April 1 and $40 on May 1. Admission for Friday only is $25 and admission for Saturday only is $25.
Gates will open at Ridge Ferry Park at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 13th. Friday’s music lineup includes Scott Thompson and Sammy Kershaw. Friday’s barbecue contests include King of the Wings and the ancillary categories Anything Butt, Sauce and Dessert.
Saturday’s gates open at 10 a.m. for the barbecue, and competitions include the People’s Choice Contest, and the KCBS Professional and Backyard Cook Competitions. Saturday night’s River Jam lineup includes Luke Combs and Corey Smith. More bands are expected to join both Friday and Saturday’s lineups.
“We’re still in the planning stages for the event,” explained Hampson. “We will release more information as it comes available. We are working toward making this the biggest event yet.”
